A car breaker (sometimes called a breaker’s yard or dismantler) is a business that specialises in stripping end-of-life vehicles for usable parts and safely recycling what’s left. They’re a key part of the vehicle recycling chain, and they’re licensed to handle the process legally and safely.

When a car is no longer roadworthy, instead of crushing the whole thing straight away, a car breaker will dismantle it first. They’ll remove valuable parts like the engine, gearbox, catalytic converter, wheels, mirrors, electronics, basically anything that still works and can be sold on. These parts are cleaned, tested and resold to garages, DIY mechanics or exporters.<br>
